Welcome everyone to the 2 nd annual “Run for the Cure” web site. The first year was very successful with almost 150 participants raising over 3000.00 for the American Cancer Society. For weeks afterwards we would hear “I didn't know about it or I would have come”. This year there are no excuses! The word is out, bring both family and friends. Many of us have been a part of “relay for life” for a long time, but this last year it hit home for our family as our mom, Norma Cartwright was diagnosed with cancer. We all rallied together to put together a race to support the cure for cancer, not only for the money but to give us and mom a goal to focus our thoughts on. Mom didn't get involved doing a lot of outside activities, but she sure would be there for this. We lost Norma in February of 2009, three months before the race. At a time when our family lost their drive to do this event, friends and loved ones came forward to encourage us to continue. We had forgotten how many of you have your own “Norma's” that you are dealing with. Maybe this could be a healing process for everyone. We made a list of potential sponsors who we knew have had dealings with cancer some where in there lives, whether friends or family. We sent out letters in the worst of economic times asking for money to support us with a promise that no one would call and solicit them. We would wait for a response from those who felt the desire to be part of this event. We prayed and turned the whole matter over to GOD, and would rely on him to fill our financial needs. We are especially touched by all of the sponsors of this event, because they came forward giving from their hearts. We needed 18 businesses to come support us and in less than two weeks all the slots were filled. Please take the time to look at the sponsors tab, they're very special people! This year we hope you again will join us in the fight against cancer. We will be offering the special shirts again (new color) that you can personalize with the names of loved ones and friends. What a better way to show the world your support of those precious people. We are also adding the “Tot Trot” for the younger ones. This will be a safe, marked course with in the park. We want the whole family to be able to participate, from the youngest to the oldest. This is an event for everyone, runners, walkers, kids and grandparents, those serious about their “time”, to the social walkers. This is a disease that has no prejudices on its victims, we want no limits on who can fight it. We welcome any input, comments or questions to help us make this better. Please send all correspondence to blessedrunner@5krunforthecure.com We will be blessed to have you in attendance this year!
